An IRS contractor who leaked President Trump’s taxes in 2019 was sentenced to 5 years in prison. Charles Littlejohn sent the files to The New York Times, who published it along with other high net worth’s individuals’s.

Littlejohn purposefully sought a contract with the IRS in order to have access to the documents. He claimed he took matters into his own hands because he saw President Trump as a threat to democracy. Fox News reports:

A former IRS consultant was sentenced to five years in prison for leaking former President Donald Trump’s tax returns as well as the filings of thousands of other wealthy people to the news media.

A district court judge on Monday agreed with the Justice Department that Charles Littlejohn, 38, deserved the maximum statutory sentence for what she called “egregious” crimes.

Littlejohn exemplifies was Donald Trump calls the “Deep State”, nameless bureaucrats who sabotage elected officials to push their own agenda. He is only one of few to be charged for weaponizing the federal government against conservatives. Politico continues:

Federal prosecutors said Littlejohn sought his job as an IRS consultant specifically for the purpose of leaking Trump’s returns in 2019. Littlejohn had done work for Booz Allen from 2008 to 2013, but he returned to the company as an IRS consultant in 2017. Prosecutors say the career move was meant to grant him access to private tax information that would allow him to leak Trump’s tax returns. The DOJ says Littlejohn considered Trump to be a threat to democracy.

“He did not make a snap judgment. He made a series of decisions. This court cannot let others view this conduct as acceptable. I need to send the strongest possible message that we are a nation of laws,” Reyes said Monday.

A major plank of Trump’s platform is the destruction of the Deep State and the bureaucrats who refuse to follow the will of the American people. What they will do if Trump wins another term is up in the air.
