Donald Trump and Robert F Kennedy Jr. are starting to feud due to shared potential voters. After Trump called Kennedy a “Democrat plant”, Kennedy fired back at the former President, calling him “unhinged”.

Because Kennedy and Biden both came from the Democratic Party, they had already butted heads. However, Kennedy and Trump had mostly stayed away from each other as Kennedy was not expected to dig into Trump’s base. The Guardian says:

Robert F Kennedy Jr has dismissed Donald Trump as “unhinged” after a social media tirade from the former Republican president accused the independent White House hopeful of being a “Democrat plant” and “wasted protest vote”.

“When frightened men take to social media they risk descending into vitriol, which makes them sound unhinged,” Kennedy wrote on Saturday on X in a post that doubled as a debate challenge. “President Trump’s rant against me is a barely coherent barrage of wild and inaccurate claims that should best be resolved in the American tradition of presidential debate.”

Kennedy’s last name has obviously generated a lot of talk about legitimacy with Democrats, but this is waning. His uncle was elected more than 60 years ago, and the Democrat political coalition has changed tremendously since. The Hill continues:

The conventional wisdom for months has been that while Kennedy’s third-party bid could be a spoiler for both Trump and Biden, it bore more risks to the Democrat given Kennedy’s family name.

But Decision Desk HQ’s aggregate of polling over the last few weeks paints a much more complicated picture. While Trump at times sees his lead over Biden grow with Kennedy is also included in polls, the gap was narrowing last week, and at one point Biden and Trump were in a dead heat in a three-way race with Kennedy.

Whether this trend continues is uncertain, but Trump will have to take Kennedy into consideration for the general election. Biden should also be cautious of this opponent, as he could still cut into his support, especially over the Israel issue.
