Donald Trump’s search for a Vice-President is coming near an end, with the convention only a couple weeks away. Some of the top names that have been floated are JD Vance, Doug Burgum, Marco Rubio, and Elise Stefanik.

Based on the location of the first rally, in Miami, it could be that Marco Rubio is set to be the Vice-President. However, Florida is Donald Trump’s base of operations so it could really be any of the above mentioned candidates. AP News says:

Trump has two rallies planned. The first is scheduled for Tuesday evening at his golf club in Doral, Florida, near Miami. The primetime scheduling and location would seem to provide an ideal opportunity to unveil his pick if it is Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, a Miami native who is one of his top contenders.

Rubio will be in attendance at the event, according to an adviser familiar with the senator’s plans, who, like others, spoke on condition of anonymity about the selection process.

Trump’s choice could reflect his priorities and target demographic. JD Vance would strengthen his base in the Midwest, while Rubio could help with the Hispanic vote. Burgum, on the other hand, lends significant wealth and connections to donors. The Economist says:

Donald trump has been teasing his choice of running-mate for months. Like contestants on “The Apprentice”, the reality show he used to present, each potential vice-president has been clamouring to impress the boss. Ever the showman, Mr Trump seems to be preparing for a blockbuster announcement around the time of the Republican National Convention, which starts on July 15th.

He will try to pick a running-mate who is strong where he is weak and appeals to voters and donors who have doubts about him. The name that eventually ends up at the top of the Democratic ticket might also affect the choice. But ultimately the decision will come down to Mr Trump’s own unpredictable whims. Here are a handful of Republicans whom The Economist thinks he could plausibly pick as his running-mate.

Regardless, it seems highly likely that Trump will reveal his pick officially to the world at the Convention itself. Still, leaks are likely to occur just prior to it, but not far out enough to change the media optics on the event.
