Joe Biden and Donald Trump were both at the Texas Border to address the illegal immigration crisis. The issue, along with inflation, is expected to be one of the major issues that will decide the election.

Trump is running on bringing order back to the border, which he had achieved thanks to his deal with Mexico. He is running on building more border defenses, funding more DHS agents, and shutting down the lax policies inciting illegals to cross the border. Fox News says:

Trump, who has made restoring order to the border one of the main thrusts of his 2024 presidential bid, will be in Eagle Pass, the center of an ongoing stand-off and court battle between Texas Gov. Greg Abbott and the administration over border-related issues including setting up of razor-wire and a new anti-illegal immigration law.

Trump and Republicans have blamed the Biden administration for the crisis, saying its rollback of Trump-era policies and implementation of “open border” policies have fueled the crisis and allowed the entry of millions of illegal immigrants.

Biden, at his rally, blamed Trump for his own inability to secure the Border. Biden claimed his border bill would provide more funding for Border Patrol agents, when the vast majority of funds were not for actual Border defense. In addition, the bill would have “legalized” over a million of unlawful entries per year. Biden has also not shown good faith by implementing restrictions the Federal Government is authorized to. The Washington Post continues:

The remarkable split-screen — the presidential contenders each delivered their speeches at about the same time — provided a preview of what could be a long and bitter general election campaign. Biden took office announcing his determination to handle immigration more humanely than Trump, whose rhetoric on migrants was often incendiary. But he has faced periodic images of chaos at the border during his presidency, and in recent weeks he has taken a harder line.

Ahead of his remarks, Biden received a briefing from Customs and Border Protection, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). In each session, presenters highlighted how few resources they have to address the surge of migration at the border, the flow of fentanyl and the need to process asylum claims.

The Border Patrol Union has endorsed Donald Trump, and Biden is desperately trying to portray himself as tough on crime in response. The flood of illegals into Blue States has started to make “Sanctuary Cities” question their own commitment to illegals.
