The state of Georgia has ruled that ballots in the state will have to be counted by hand. This remains the most secure way to ensure every vote is counted once.

The board ruled that the ballots would be counted by hand, despite the political establishment making their opposition known. Fox News says:

The Georgia State Election Board voted 3-2 to approve a rule that requires poll workers to count the number of paper ballots by hand after voting is completed in a decision that was opposed by the state attorney general’s office, the secretary of state’s office and an association of county election officials but supported by many conservatives.

Three board members who were praised by former President Donald Trump during a rally last month in Atlanta voted to approve the measure.

Democrats in particular are already upset about the ruling. Why more transparency would be bad is baffling and disturbing. The liberal USA Today says:

The proposed hand-counting rule, in particular, could delay results, set fatigued employees up to fail, and “undermine the very confidence the rule’s author claims to seek,” according to the election officials.

The election board members didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment ahead of the Friday meeting. Previously, King told USA TODAY her mission is “to ensure that every vote is counted accurately and every election is conducted correctly going forward.”

The reality, however, is that hand counting ballots is standard practice in most parts of the free world, where the public is able to view the counting operations. Additionally, results are posted the same night.
