Taylor Swift officially endorsed Kamala Harris following the September 10 debate. The move was expected by all political analysts, as she previously endorsed Biden in 2020.

What might surprise most is that her endorsement could actually backfire. Using a model, one data company claimed that she would drive Democrats to the polls. USA Today says:

The Taylor Swift effect brought new fans to America’s biggest sporting event this past winter. Will the pop star’s endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris after Tuesday night’s debate drive more votes in the year’s biggest election?

Yes, says Resonate, a data and intelligence company that analyzes trillions of online interactions. Typical polling extrapolates the pulse of American voters from a few hundred or thousand responses. The Reston, Virginia, company uses its AI modeling system to develop its own insights on 250 million people.

An early poll, however, claims that more people would be turned away from Kamala following Switft’s endorsement. While Swift might be popular with some super-fans, she is also turning away many with her personality. The NY Post continues:

A new post-debate poll from YouGov released Saturday found that 8% of voters said the pop superstar’s nod is either “somewhat” or “much more likely” to convince them to cast their ballot for the Democrat.

But a whopping 20% said they are “somewhat” or “much less likely” to vote for former President Donald Trump’s opponent now that Swift has spoken.

Republicans already know that most celebrities support Democrats, as they benefit from the current system. More and more non committed voters are turned off by these ham fisted endorsements.
