Trump’s second attempted assassin is still being held by Federal authorities and will be charged with attempted assassination. He could face up to life in prison for his crime.
The suspect left ample evidence that removes any possible doubt as to his motive. The feds released his confession, which include a bounty place on Donald Trump’s head for a total of $150,000. The NY Times says:
The federal government will pursue a charge of attempted assassination against a man accused of lurking with a gun near where former President Donald J. Trump was golfing in Florida last week, prosecutors said in a court hearing on Monday. Among the government’s evidence, they said, was a note the suspect had written suggesting that he had planned the attack.
Such a charge — which prosecutors said they would seek through a grand jury indictment — would carry a maximum possible penalty of life imprisonment.
Former Attorney General Bill Barr said that he was dumbfounded at the decision to release the would-be murder’s manifesto. This would only inflame further attempted killings, he said. Fox News reports:
Former Attorney General William Barr says he is “dumbfounded” that the Justice Department released a chilling letter penned by would-be assassin Ryan Wesley Routh on Monday, calling the decision “rash” and serving no purpose “other than to risk inciting further violence.”
Routh is the suspect in former President Donald Trump’s second foiled assassination attempt. The DOJ obtained the letter from a witness who says they received it inside a box delivered to them by Routh several months prior to the assassination attempt.
Considering that the Federal Government never released the trans-shooter’s manifesto from Memphis, we can only conclude that DOJ officials are seeking to see Trump killed.
