Joe Biden hosted his potentially final cabinet meeting alongside his wife Jill Biden. Shortly after, however, Jill Biden took over the event by herself while Biden retired.
This caused great consternation as to who is actually in charge of the American Government. The NY Post says:
First lady Jill Biden did most of the talking Friday at the public portion of what may be President Biden’s last Cabinet meeting — before showing the cast of “The West Wing” around the Oval Office and hosting a Rose Garden event without her husband.
“The work is hard and the days are long. And yes, there are times when the weight of all we have before us can just feel too heavy to carry,” Jill, 73, said in the Rose Garden from a podium presidents usually occupy.
The press has been comparing this to the situation with Edith Wilson, Woodrow Wilson’s wife, who was running the government in the final days of his Presidency. The Daily Mail continues:
This comparison was referenced online by Greg Price, who added: ‘She’s literally Edith Wilson except right out in the open in a 24/7 news cycle and nobody in the media cares.’
Political commentator also posted about the First Lady kicking off the meeting, posting: ‘Jill Biden is kicking off the first cabinet meeting the White House has had in almost a year and we’re expected to act like this is normal.’
The government is no longer functioning like it is supposed to. While Kamala might claim she could right this ship, this is the very same government she is a part of.
