Some charges against Trump in Georgia have been dismissed following a ruling by Judge McAfee.
Trump has been accused by the liberal prosecutors of Atlanta of interfering with the election. Judge McAfee dismissed charges that were directly related to federal crimes, as the Georgia prosecutors had no authority to do so. Fox News says:
A judge dismissed two criminal counts in the Georgia 2020 election interference case against former President Donald Trump and one other count against allies of the former president.
Fulton County Judge Scott McAfee ruled that Georgia prosecutors had no authority to bring the charges, which related to alleged filing of false documents in federal court.
The lead attorney, Fani Willis, has not been dismissed from the case but charges could always be dropped later on. NBC News says:
The case is currently on hold as Trump and other defendants appeal McAffee’s decision not to disqualify Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis. The Georgia Court of Appeals is set to hear arguments on that issue in December.
In March, the same judge dismissed six other counts in the indictment, including three against Trump because the indictment lacked sufficient detail. However, he said at the time that the state could attempt to refile those charges in the future.
The case will not resume until December, at which point the 2024 election will hopefully have been decided.
