Trump Speaks on Abortion Bill

Donald Trump revealed that he will vote against the Florida bill to enshrine abortion in the state. However, he revealed that he thought 6 weeks was too short of a ban in his opinion.

This has caused him to receive criticism from both Left and Right, as his middle ground position is not radical enough for either side. Politico says:

Former President Donald Trump said Friday he will vote against a Florida ballot measure that would enshrine the right to abortion in the state constitution — a day after he angered some of his evangelical supporters with remarks about restrictions on the procedure.

Trump said in a TV interview that he still disagrees with the six-week ban imposed by Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and Republicans in the state but that he would vote against Amendment 4 because he opposed what he calls “radical” access to the procedure favored by Democrats.

While Trump has not declared himself as pro-life as other conservative leaders, he has done more to repeal Roe than any other previous politicians. This has cost him dearly in many elections, as pro-abortion partisans have won many ballot initiatives. NBC News continues:

Meanwhile, anti-abortion activists, who have provided critical support to Trump during his three presidential runs, piled on. Some also criticized his suggestion that he’d mandate that the government or insurance companies pay for in vitro fertilization treatments.

“Former President Trump now appears determined to undermine his prolife supporters,” evangelical theologian Albert Mohler wrote on X. “His criticism of Florida abortion restrictions & his call for government funding of IVF & his recent statement about ‘reproductive rights’ seem almost calculated to alienate prolife voters.”
