Following the failed assassination attempt on Trump, the Secret Service is planning on upgrading Trump’s security.
Trump will have access to bulletproof glass at rallies. This is rarely done, as Secret Service is usually confident in its ability to secure scenes ahead of time. CBS News says:
The U.S. Secret Service is arranging for former President Donald Trump to resume outdoor campaign rallies a month after a gunman targeted him at a rally in Pennsylvania.
The Secret Service plans to surround Trump’s podium with bulletproof glass, according to two federal law enforcement officials.
The failed assassination of President Trump was one of the worse Secret Service failures in its history. Four Presidents have been killed, one (Reagan) injured while serving, and two former (Trump and Teddy Roosevelt) have been wounded. Fox News continues:
The fury over the security lapse mounted after it was revealed that law enforcement had identified the gunman – later identified as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks – as suspicious an hour before the rally began, but lost track of him.
Crooks was able to scale the roof of a building owned by AGR International Inc., a supplier of automation equipment for the glass and plastic packaging industry, and fire an estimated eight shots with an AR-15-style rifle.
The commission on the attempted assassination is ongoing in Congress, though it is doubtful if they will get to the bottom of what really happened.
