Kamala Harris reported raising $310 million dollars in July, a record and double that of Trump.

A lot of this money was promised, or “baked in”, for Biden but withheld when the Democrat Establishment revolted. The enthusiasm by committed liberals for such as ideological candidate also contributed to the large fundraising haul. The Guardian reports:

Kamala Harris’s campaign said on Friday it raised $310m in July, the latest dramatic illustration of a US presidential race polls show has transformed from an apparent romp to victory by Donald Trump into a neck-and-neck race in battleground states, though Trump retains a narrow lead.

Harris doubled Trump’s July fundraising haul of $138.7m which in any normal year would be an impressive result, boosted by the assassination attempt he survived in Pennsylvania and by the Republican convention in Milwaukee.

Trump has been performing well in fundraising compared to previous years, with massive donations following his assassination attempt. Harris’s entrance into the scene has blunted his momentum, but will likely pick back up once Biden and Kamala’s record is exposed. Politico says:

In May, Trump’s enormous cash hauls after his hush money felony convictions in New York erased the cash lead Biden had built. Biden’s disastrous June debate, followed by a slow drip of calls from Democratic elected officials for the president to step aside, froze fundraising. Major Democratic donors canceled fundraising events and withheld money from the Biden campaign to express their disappointment. Small-dollar donations, too, started to dry up, forcing the campaign to make what it called “massive revisions downward” for the month of July.

But Biden’s departure from the ticket on July 21 and Harris’ elevation turned the money spigot back on, as major Democratic donors committed $150 million to a pro-Democratic presidential super PAC, and small-dollar donors rushed to give to Harris’ presidential campaign.

Donald Trump will have to expand his fundraising operation if he hopes to compete with Kamala Harris. Trump has won elections while being outspent by his opponents before, but he should still try to close the gap to have the best chances to win.
