House Unveils Trump Assassination Commission Members

The House of Representatives have unveiled their list of members who will serve on the Trump Assassination Commission. The panel will contain 13 members, 7 Republicans and 6 Democrats.

The committee will be chaired by Mike Kelly, the Republican representing the district where the assassination attempt occurred. Fox News reports:

After House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., and Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y., named their nominees to the Trump assassination attempt incident task force, the panel’s members expressed a bipartisan willingness to get to the bottom of how the historic tragedy was able to happen in the first place.

Rep. Mike Kelly, the Pennsylvania Republican whose district includes the Butler Farm Show grounds where the attempt on Trump’s life occurred, was named the panel’s chairman.

House leaders agreed to only nominate “serious” members, who either have expertise in law enforcement and/or are generally inoffensive to the other side. Firebrands of both parties will therefore not be members. The NY Times continues:

Quote In private conversations between the two leaders, Mr. Jeffries emphasized the need to appoint serious members to the panel, a proposition with which Mr. Johnson agreed, according to two people with knowledge of the discussions. Mr. Johnson also emphasized that the task force, which was formally created by a congressional act that unanimously passed the House last week, represent a cross section of views within the Republican Party.

Spots on the committee, which is seen as a high-profile assignment to close out the 118th Congress, were the subject of intense internal lobbying.

The details of the investigation will hopefully be released before the election. We do not know if they will go down every avenue of investigation or if certain ones will be barred for fear of being accused of “conspiracy.”
