Supreme Court Deals Blow to Parents

The Supreme Court has dealt a critical blow against parents fearful for their children in schools. The Montgomery County, Maryland, school board was sued by parents for its transgender policy.

The Supreme Court dismissed the suit based on standing, since the parents had not been injured by the provisions. Sadly, Americans will have to wait and see children suffer before they can sue the local government. Fox News says:

The Supreme Court on Monday declined to hear a case involving Maryland parents attempting to sue a school district for its policies that reinforce gender transition of students without their parents’ consent. 

The case, John and Jane Parents 1 v. Montgomery County Board of Education, centered on whether the parents have the proper standing to file the suit. The 4th Circuit Court of Appeals ruled in August that three parents in Montgomery County, Maryland, lacked standing to challenge the policy.

Transgender policies in schools has already resulted in a rape in the Loudon County Schools, which played a major part in Glen Youngkin’s election. In addition, this has put students at risk in PE class as well as generally creating a climate of mistrust. WYFF4 continues:

“This case presents an issue on the merits that is roiling parents and school districts from Maine to California,” the parents who sued over the policy told the justices in their appeal last year. “It is important for parents, their children, and public schools alike to have this issue addressed and resolved now.”

The school district said the guidelines were put in place to “ensure a safe and respectful school environment” for all students. The fact that a student chooses to disclose information to a teacher or administrator, the school said, “does not authorize school staff to disclose a student’s information to others.”

Students deserve to be safe in their schools, and school officials should not hide children’s mental health issues from their parents.
