Donald Trump stated clearly and unequivocally that Nikki Haley is not under consideration as Vice-Presidential candidate. This will likely put an end to Nikki Haley’s career due to how late she continued opposing Trump in the primary.
While some saw her as a potential fusion candidate with Trump, it is known that he values loyalty above all else. A number of names have already been CNBC reports:
Donald Trump on Saturday made it clear that former Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley is not on his running mate shortlist, quieting rumors that his campaign had been considering her as an option.
“Nikki Haley is not under consideration for the V.P. slot, but I wish her well!” the presumptive GOP presidential nominee wrote in a Truth Social post, signing the message “DJT.”
While Trump has publicly discounted Haley, he was not hostile in his message as he “wished her well.” Despite the bitterness among partisans of both, Trump will have to bring back Haley’s voters to the fold if he wants to win the general election. USA Today says:
Selecting a running mate that could appeal to the GOP voters who favor Haley could help Trump in November, and Haley herself might be the best person to do it. Many of Trump’s MAGA followers soured on Haley during the primary, though, and having her on the ticket could upset his base.
While ruling Haley out as his running mate, Trump’s “wish her well” comments seem to be a sign that he’s ready to mend fences and get her voters on board with his campaign.
Among Trump’s top rumored picks are Doug Burgum, whose physical presence, lack of scandals, and successful business career all make him valuable. Trump could also stress youth with a pick like JD Vance, or the African-American community with Tim Scott.
