Donald Trump, who has had to endure years of being called a “fascist” by Leftists, is now calling Biden’s prosecutors “Gestapo” after the Nazi secret police during World War II.
The remarks, made in private, reflected the strong opposition that Trump has for the numerous prosecutions launched against him. Rather than focus on crime that impacts everyday Americans, Democrats are using police and federal agents to go after Trump and remove him from the election. The Washington Post says:
Former president Donald Trump escalated his attacks on prosecutors at a private luncheon here Saturday, referring to special counsel Jack Smith with an expletive and accusing Democrats of “running a Gestapo administration,” according to audio provided by a Republican donor.
He called Smith — who is prosecuting federal cases involving Trump’s handling of classified documents and his role in the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol — a “f—ing a–hole.” He continued to mock another prosecutor, District Attorney Fani T. Willis (D) of Georgia’s Fulton County, for her past relationship with former special prosecutor Nathan Wade, calling her “Mrs. Wade” and “a real beauty.”
Doug Burgum, a former candidate for President, has been defending Trump strongly in interviews. Although “auditioning” for Vice-President, Burgum has been a stalwart in defending the language used, though it was not the main point of Trump’s criticism. The AP continues:
Republican Gov. Doug Burgum of North Dakota, appearing Sunday on CNN’s “State of the Union,” essentially confirmed Trump’s statement, but tried to diminish its importance.
“This was a short comment deep into the thing that wasn’t really central to what he was talking about,” said Burgum, who is among the contenders to be Trump’s running mate.
Trump will have to use every possible advantage in attacking Biden. It is also a wakeup call that even though the Federal Government is not the Gestapo in form, it is beginning to harass conservatives more and should be curbed.
