Trump’s trial in Manhattan took an unexpected turn when his former aide Hope Hicks took the stand. While her subpoenaed testimony allegedly damaged Donald Trump’s case, she also broke down in court which could impact the prosecution’s case.

Hicks was Trump’s communications managers during the 2016 campaign, where she allegedly knew about the payment to Stormy Daniels. Such payment Fox News reports:

Hope Hicks, former President Donald Trump’s 2016 campaign press secretary who went on to serve as his White House communications director, appeared to get emotional Friday when she was asked about her time with the Trump Organization.

It was then that Hicks appeared to get choked up and held back tears, sending the court into a brief break.

Hick’s testimony will neither make to break the case against Trump. Still, her performance in front of the jury will no doubt influence them. Politico continues:

Later, during cross-examination, she threw him another bone when she was asked by lawyer EMIL BOVE whether the Trump campaign’s media strategy was typical: “I’ve only been on one campaign, but it was a great one, and that is my understanding.”

Bove also got Hicks to agree with some of what they want to emphasize about Cohen, including that he would often “go rogue” and “wasn’t a part of the campaign” and “was really just a lawyer” at the Trump Organization.

Trump’s case in Manhattan has a high likelihood to end in conviction due to the jury. However, it could still end up as a hung jury. The important fact, however, will be if Trump is imprisoned on those charges, or simply fined.
