Ron DeSantis is putting wins on the scoreboard as Florida Governor. For his latest law, DeSantis has passed restrictions on squatters to prevent them from taking over houses.

In ancient times, squatter rights were set up for settlers to take over truly abandoned homesteads out West, where they could improve the land and eventually gain title to it. In an era where everything and everyone is so closely tracked, squatters are now professional criminals who rely on leftist laws to occupy urban housing. Fox News reports:

Meanwhile, residents in states like New York are witnessing an uptick in squatter activity, including several cases in the Big Apple where homeowners are vexed as to how to remove their unwanted guests.

A woman in Flushing was arrested after she attempted to change locks on a million-dollar home she inherited, when a man inside the abode called police. Two of the three purported squatters in the case have reportedly since fled.

Florida law will now make eviction much easier, which is key for landlords to turn a profit. During Covid lockdowns, the security of owning real estate was proven to not be as foolproof, when rent freezes were imposed nationally. News Nation Now says:

The law increases penalties for squatting and also makes it easier and quicker for property owners to have squatters evicted from their homes.

DeSantis said “homes are being invaded” in other states and accused the law of siding with squatters. DeSantis referred to squatting as a fad and said the goal was to have “the thumb of the law” on the scales on the side of property owners.

DeSantis has pivoted surprisingly well following his failed presidential ambitions. After endorsing Donald Trump, he went back to Florida and continued to deliver on his promises.
