Hunter Biden refused to show up to his Congressional Testimony, despite being subpoenaed by Congressional Republicans. James Comer, the chair of the Oversight Committee, has been attempting to get Biden under oath in a public testimony many times, but to no avail.
In addition to Congressional subpoenas, Hunter Biden is also under fire by the Justice Department itself, who is looking to charge him in both a tax and gun case. The Hill reports:
President Biden’s son, Hunter Biden, won’t appear before Congress at a slated March 20 hearing, with his attorney telling House Republicans that he “declines your invitation to this carnival side show.”
The letter to House Oversight and Accountability Committee Chair James Comer (R-Ky.) comes after he apparently set a hearing date without first consulting Hunter Biden for his availability, arranging for his testimony alongside some former business partners who have been critical of the president’s son.
Biden’s continued refusal could lead to criminal referrals soon. Conservatives such as Steve Bannon have already been subjected to this by Democrats during the January 6 hearings. The NY Post continues:
“If he does not show up, then it’s not going to end well for the Bidens, because we have three witnesses … that have already testified under oath to significantly different stories as to what exactly the Biden influence peddling schemes were.”
Comer, 51, warned, “This is very serious because we’re at the point now of criminal referrals.”
Republicans are at a crossroads. Delivering accountability to the powerful could be a huge boost to their base, but could also risk alienating independents.
