The 2024 Battle is ON

Biden and Trump are set to be their respective party’s nominee. Barring unforeseen circumstances, like death, the two have secured enough candidate votes to be nominated this summer. States, however, can still decide to continue holding their primaries or cancelling them.

The Republican National Convention will be held in Milwaukee in June, while the Democrat one will be in Chicago in August. If one of the candidate dies after this, there could be chaos depending on if the election has already been held. Politico says:

Republicans will gather in Milwaukee July 15-18, where Trump will formally be nominated. Trump’s delegates are bound by RNC rules to support him in the first round of voting on the nomination.

Meanwhile, Trump and Biden both have already pivoted to the general election and are aggressively campaigning, including this week over Social Security and other government spending.

This is the first “rematch” election between the exact same candidates since 1956. Other than that, only one other President has his two terms separated by another President, Grover Cleveland. Fox News continues:

The November rematch between Biden and Trump is the first in the race for the White House since 1956, when Republican President Dwight D. Eisenhower defeated former Democratic Gov. Adlai Stevenson of Illinois when they faced off for a second time.

In a statement as he clinched the nomination, Biden took aim at his Republican challenger, charging that “Donald Trump is running a campaign of resentment, revenge, and retribution that threatens the very idea of America.”

Both candidates will pivot towards the center, and focus on issues that the majority of the electorate supports them for. For Trump, this comes down to immigration and the economy. For Biden, abortion is a strong issue for him. Convincing voters that their strong issues are the most important will be key to victory.
