The Biden Administration is losing Marcia Fudge as its Secretary of Housing and Urban Development. Fudge was a former Congresswoman who focused on housing issues, who declared that she no longer thinks she can do anything else for HUD before the election.

This marks the second loss in the cabinet for Biden, which had otherwise seen very little change. This stable cabinet reflects the strong internal discipline in the Democrat Party, which has maintained internal peace until the October 7 attacks on Israel. Fox News says:

“It’s time to go home,’’ Fudge told USA Today, which reported that her last day is March 22. “I do believe strongly that I have done just about everything I could do at HUD for this administration as we go into this crazy, silly season of an election.”

With her departure, Fudge will become only the second original Cabinet member to leave the Biden administration after Labor Secretary Marty Walsh stepped down last year.

Her retirement coincided with a new White House push for an increased budget. Biden wants to expend housing tax credits and build more affordable housing. Politico reports:

The news of Fudge’s departure came as the White House released a budget request Monday full of housing funding, amid a historic shortage of affordable options.

The budget calls for an expansion of the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit, which facilitates the construction of affordable housing, and the establishment of a new Neighborhood Homes Tax Credit to spur the construction and preservation of affordable housing in distressed neighborhoods.

Fudge’s departure by itself will not be a major event, but could spur more members of the administration to leave. This could in turn give the impression that Biden’s campaign is not on a path to victory, further snowballing.
