Recent polls show that President Biden is doing better against former President Trump in hypothetical matchups. Also, it seems more women are supporting Biden than before.
A new national survey by Quinnipiac University found that Biden has 50% support among registered voters, while Trump has 44%. Quinipiac explains:
As signs point to the 2024 presidential election being a repeat of the 2020 race between President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump, Biden holds a lead over Trump 50 – 44 percent among registered voters in a hypothetical general election matchup, according to a Quinnipiac (KWIN-uh-pea-ack) University national poll of registered voters released today.
In Quinnipiac University’s December 20, 2023 poll, the same hypothetical 2024 general election matchup was ‘too close to call’ as President Biden received 47 percent support and former President Trump received 46 percent support.
Despite Haley’s claims of being a stronger GOP nominee against Biden, the poll suggests a close race between them in a two-person matchup, but in a five-candidate scenario, Biden leads. Trump remains the frontrunner for the GOP nomination, winning decisively in recent primary contests. Haley faces an uphill battle for the nomination, particularly in her home state, where Trump holds a significant lead among Republican voters, according to the poll. Fox News says:
But a compilation by Real Clear Politics of all the most recent national surveys polling a Biden-Trump rematch indicates the former president with a 2.5-point margin over the White House incumbent.
The new Quinnipiac survey indicates Biden with a 96%-2% margin among Democrats and a 52%-40% advantage among independents, while Trump enjoyed 91%-7% support among Republicans.
While the primary for Democrats and Republicans is almost certainly over, the results for the election are far from certain. In 2016, Trump famously beat Hillary who was widely favored. In 2020, Trump was favored to win a second term, but COVID changed this. If the border situation continues, it will be difficult for Biden to win Independents.
