Iran has launched an attack on US troops on the Jordan-Syria border, killing three servicemen. Iranian drones bombed a US base supporting rebels in Syria.
The US has had two small presences in Syria. One in the North East supports Kurdish troop, while the smaller one on the Jordanian border supports Arab rebels. The latter is the one that was hit, and now has Americans second guessing why small troop contingents are spread out all over the world. CNN says:
Three US Army soldiers were killed and more than 30 service members were injured in a drone attack overnight on a small US outpost in Jordan, US officials told CNN, marking the first time US troops have been killed by enemy fire in the Middle East since the beginning of the Gaza war.
“We shall respond,” President Joe Biden said while speaking in South Carolina on Sunday.
The very fact that Iran attacked US troops is a testament to Biden’s foreign policy. Donald Trump made it clear on social media that no enemies attacked the United States while he was President. Donald Trump had previously attempted to remove US troops in Syria, but was subtly overruled by what many would call “the deep state.” Fox News continues:
“This attack would NEVER have happened if I was President, not even a chance – Just like the Iranian-backed Hamas attack on Israel would never have happened, the War in Ukraine would never have happened, and we would right now have Peace throughout the World. Instead, we are on the brink of World War 3,” Trump wrote.
In the wake of the attack, Republicans condemned Biden’s perceived inaction so far and some went further, accusing the president of appeasing Iran.
Iran has continuously probed US troops in the region, and has finally landed its first kill since the beginning of the Gaza War. Escalation could overstretch US troops, while inaction will leave America open to further aggression. The Biden Administration has put US troops in harms way with no good outcomes.
