Here’s Where Things Stand for Trump in New Hampshire

The New Hampshire primary is on Tuesday, January 23rd, and the results already seem clear. Donald Trump has locked in 50% of support according to a University of New Hampshire poll.

After his victory in Iowa, Trump seems poised to win over half of the votes in New Hampshire as well. Nikki Haley is his main competitor, and is expected to perform above DeSantis. Fox News reports:

With two days to go until New Hampshire’s Republican presidential primary, two new polls indicate former President Donald Trump remains the commanding front-runner, with former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley behind by double-digits, and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis a distant third.

Trump, who is running a third straight time for the White House, stands at 50% support in a University of New Hampshire/CNN poll released Sunday morning.

Although a long shot, Haley is currently the best placed among Trump’s challenger to beat him. The electorate in New Hampshire leans more towards moderate Republicans, and Haley could capitalize on a decent performance to do better in South Carolina. The Hill continues:

Nikki Haley is hoping to capitalize on those vulnerabilities. The former U.N. ambassador is the only candidate left in the GOP primary aiming to defeat Trump outright. After a disappointing finish in Iowa, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is effectively surrendering new Hampshire and focusing on South Carolina’s Feb. 24 primary.

A Haley victory would usher in a more competitive phase of a primary that Trump has so far dominated. A Trump win, however, could create a sense of inevitability around the prospect that he could become the GOP nominee for the third consecutive time.

The question of where DeSantis and his supporters will go could seal Haley’s fate. DeSantis supporters are more conservative, so will likely gravitate towards Trump in the primary.
